Mahindra & Mahindra rolled out a new avatar of Verito, a compact car, on Thursday, in direct competition of cars like Maruti Dzire, Ford Classic, Toyota Etios and Tata Indigo. It is evolved out of Logan, a remarkable product of Mahindra-Renault joint venture.
Developing this Verito on Logan platform held out to the renowned manufacturer few very obvious advantages. It took less manufacturing time and made the manufacturing process easier and cheaper. Moreover, the outcome of such practice could be very salutary. This new version of Verito proves this by improving upon the previous version by introducing around two dozen changes. The result is a much better car and customer satisfaction. The company pumps in Rs 50 crore worth of fresh investment.
For Mahindra, already established as a utility vehicle manufacturer, this experience seems to have sunk quite well. This could be deduced from the interview given by the CEO, Mr. Pravin Shah, who freely talked about the possibility of venturing into the small car market piggybacking on the same Logan platform provided customers are enthusiastic about it.
Also under consideration is a sub four metre Verito sedan that will hold out the benefit of lower excise duty. Since the under-floor area of the proposed car remains the same, the possibility is other parts of the cars might also remain the same. And, as usual, Renault will supply the engine and driveline for it. But a lot will be depending upon customer response. That’s for sure.
