Ford India has launched another variant of its much popular entry level sedan, the Ford Ikon. The new Ford Ikon Plus comes loaded with state-of-the-art accessories as a comprehensive package enhancing the style and comfort of the vehicle.

BSA Edge has a motor rated power of 1250 watts (highest in its category) and a motor peak power of 1600 watts. The company had earlier launched electric scooters with the range of maximum 1000 watts. Edge also has a new and unique feature of a 'speed selection switch', wherein the rider can switch to power mode (speed) or economy mode (mileage) while riding. It also boasts of a revolutionary 'planetary geared motor technology' which gives the scooter better torque, better acceleration as well as better climbing capacity. A family scooter, Edge requires just six-eight hours of battery charge time.

The first of its kind in India, Roamer Able has an independent rear suspension which offers the rider a stable ride & provides adjustable rear shock absorbers for a smooth ride. It also comes with a 'speed selection switch' and has a motor power of 500 watts. Roamer Able can reach a maximum speed of 40 kmph in power mode and 25 kmph in economy mode. Its unique reversing feature makes parking easier for the differently-abled. The battery is completely maintenance free and takes approximately six to eight hours of recharge time.

Presently, the company is in the early stages of developing 'advanced motor controller technology' which aims to provide higher speed, power and efficiency to their products.

Another special feature of the DYP-DC Center is the "Center for Research". Research is an extremely important component of any educational process. On one side research helps to augment the quality of education and on other side, it builds bridges with the industry and society. The main objective of Center for Research will be to promote and perform a broad range of world-class research to provide solutions to the automotive industry's most-pressing challenges. The research spectrum would include: intelligent design, future of transportation, green materials, new materials, alternative fuels; sensors and actuators; safety systems; environmental impacts; vehicle design; and human factors / ergonomics.

Over the coming three years the Center would be offering a mix of undergraduate and post graduate specializations in Automotive Design, Engineering and Management. The eligibility criteria for admission are completion of XII for under graduate courses and graduation in any discipline for post-graduate courses. The intake will be carefully selected after a rigorous entrance examination and the perceived ability of student to create a positive difference to the automobile industry.

The DYP-DC Center will be the only leading resource for the automotive industry, where students as a part of their course will also design and build an actual car.

GM India today launched the much awaited Chevrolet Beat, the next offering from the 300 series after the Chevrolet Cruze, at a ceremony presided over by its President & Managing Director, Mr. Karl Slym. Based on GM's global mini-vehicle architecture, the experts took 27 months to develop the Beat. Chevrolet Beat will be launched in over 150 markets around the world including those in Europe, other parts of Asia and North America in the coming days.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Slym said "with its best-in-segment design, performance and safety, the Chevrolet Beat is destined to become an industry benchmark and a winner among consumers in India. Aimed at meeting the highest quality and performance standards in the most sophisticated markets in a competitive environment, the global vehicle was put through over 1 million kilometers of intensive durability tests in extreme weather conditions and crash tests both in India and abroad. Newly developed for the next-generation global mini, the S-TEC II engine - a 4-cylinder, 16-valve 1199cc DOHC engine delivers a best in class mileage of 18.6 kmpl. The Beat is Smart because it does no compromise on performance as it delivers an excellent peak power of 80.5ps. The S-TEC II engine includes a series of advanced features that enhance performance. The first-in-segment application of the PDA (Port De-Activation) system ensures high exhaust gas recirculation, resulting in combustion stability at low speeds and optimal performance at high speeds together with improved fuel efficiency. In addition, ultra-high-strength steel applied to the side structure minimizes the chance of the structure deforming in the event of a crash. The four-point mounted long engine cradle protects passengers in the event of a head-on collision by optimally dispersing crash loads. The collapsible steering column helps protect driver's chest in frontal collisions

The use of H-spider type ultra-high-strength steel bars in the underbody prevents severe deformation caused by a side crash. The tailor-welded blanking method used in the B-pillar ensures maximum protection of passengers' upper bodies. High-strength steel in the rear and rear crash boxes minimize the impact of whiplash.

The roof is especially stiff, for maximum rollover protection. The Beat has been developed to withstand up to four times its weight - which goes far beyond industry regulations. Safety features include driver and front passenger air bags a 4-channel/4-sensor EBD-ABS system and seatbelt with load limiter.

New Hyundai i10 Electric at Auto Expo 2010

Hyundai - the Korean auto giant is set to make public the electric version of its compact car 'i10'. The announcement would be made at the upcoming Auto Expo to be held in Delhi. Hyundai will also display the existing range of products and vehicles with a futuristic technology at the event which begins January 5.

It also added "Hyundai Motor India's pavilion will also display its futuristic technology in the form of concept vehicles to highlight the superior and advanced technology that the company has pioneered."

Previously, in 2007, Hyundai had launched the Hyundai i10 with internal combustion engine in 2007.At present, HMIL is the country's largest car exporter and the second largest car manufacturer with a line up of alternate fuel technology in vehicles like the CNG and LPG versions of its small car Hyundai Santro. This would be followed with its sedan Accent and small car Hyundai i10.

New "Eeco" Car from Maruti Suzuki at Delhi Auto Expo 2010

Auto giant Maruti Suzuki, is set to launch Eeco - a brand new family car. The car is crafted by a team of designers from MSIL who have worked on the project for 3 years. Maruti Suzuki Eeco is slated to be the new replacement of Maruti Versa.

Maruti Eeco CarSpeaking about the proposed launch, Mr. IV Rao, MSIL Managing Executive Officer said "The new car represents the growing expertise of our engineers to conceive, design and produce vehicles here. This is also in line with parent Suzuki Corp's vision of turning India into a global hub for small car research and development."

Eeco would be equipped with a 1,200 cc petrol engine. The car is likely to be priced below rupees 4 lakh. Designed specifically for the domestic market, the all new Maruti Suzuki Eeco would comply with Bharat Stage IV emission norms. The new family car will have three-row and two-row seating arrangements that would seat 5 or 7 passengers. MSIL engineers have been working on the model for the last three years and it is now ready to foray into the C-segment.

Keen auto experts are waiting with bated breath, as Maruti spruces up for the official display of Eeco at the Auto Expo 2010 which begins early next month in the Capital.

Eko Vehicles Launches First Hybrid Bike in Bangalore

Eko Vehicles, Bangalore have launched the first hybrid bike comprising two variants namely Strike and ET. The new bikes have been developed in collaboration with US and UK based companies and they run on battery and gasoline which makes them deliver double mileage for every liter of petrol.

Speaking about the new launch- Strike, the company`s official Press Release stated "Eko-Strike breaks price and service barrier: By offering the most economic, reliable and rugged Electric two-wheeler to the Indian market at the unbelievable price of under Rs. 22,000. This vehicle does not attract road tax and does not need to be registered. This model vehicle is to EV what DELL is to Computers: the customer can specify the battery capacity as per his daily commute requirements. Eko's quality products are offered with a five-year warranty, which is a first in the industry, demonstrating that quality is not sacrificed even at the incredible pricing."

The carbon emissions are greatly reduced in the hybrid models making them more environment - friendly. The Strike can attain top speed of 65kmph while ET employs a 70cc petrol engine and an electric motor to propel the wheels giving it a top speed of 120 kmpl which is more than Hero Honda, Bajaj or TVS. The Strike is attractively priced and the ET-120 is priced at 40,000 rupees making it the best electric vehicle you can buy in India when it goes on sale in May 2010.

TVS Plans Brand New 200cc Bike for India

TVS Bikes IndiaTVS Motors is undoubtedly one of the leading two wheeler manufacturers in India with a trajectory for a double digit growth in the two-wheeler market during the current fiscal.

The company is set to launch a 200cc Bike in India. The New 200cc bike segments is quite a prominent one where major automakers like Hero Honda, Bajaj Auto and Honda Motorcycles have already marked their presence.

This segment has witnessed Hero Honda Karizma and Bajaj Pulsar as top runners. An estimated 4000 units of 200cc bikes are rolled out each month and though the volumes are small,the automaker is sure to reach the top slot in sales. HS Goindi, President (Marketing), TVS Motors, is optimistic about the venture and has stated that the company is open to international tie-ups like the one Bajaj has, with Kawasaki. He added "If the market demands, we will look into the high-powered bike segment of above 200cc category".

Apparently, TVS Motors has sought support from the Supreme Court for its twin-spark technology with a hope that its model, TVS Flame DTs 125cc bike is likely to spell volumes for the company and increase company sales. Towards the end of 2010, TVS Motors hopes to clock monthly sales figure of 8000 unit of Flame DTS 125cc.

Skoda Yeti to be Unveiled at Delhi Auto Expo 2010

Skoda is all set to unveil the Skoda Yeti SUV at the 2010 Delhi Auto Expo which would be held in Delhi starting January 5, 2010. The official launch would take place in 2011. The model is distinguished by its unique designs and safety features with comfort and functionality.

Skoda Yeti IndiaThe all new Skoda Yeti SUV will sport engines which range from 1.6-2.0L (petrol) to a 1.9L turbo diesel engine. Skoda Yeti SUV would be imported as CKD and assembled at company's Aurangabad plant. It is however not a fully grown SUV as it measures a mere 4.2m in length.

Skoda is yet to reveal the details about its India model. The detailed technical specifications would be available only when the model is officially launched in India. The official statement from Skoda Auto India states that "The new model comes with new engines and new technical solutions, such as the off-road regime that adapts the settings of the electronic systems to driving on rough terrain, an electrically-controlled two-part panoramic sunroof and a fixing system with horizontal slats and movable hooks in the luggage space".

Skoda Yeti's compact dimensions ensure trouble-free maneuverability in the city. Skoda Yeti SUV is likely to be priced in range of Rs 10-12 lakh and would become the first SUV to be launched by a non-Indian auto maker in that price bracket.

Honda to Present Small Car at Delhi Auto Show 2010

Honda India is all set to unveil its small concept car at the 10th Auto Expo which would be held in New Delhi on January 5. Although Toyota also made a similar announcement, both the auto majors are not divulging details regarding the ventures.

Honda Small CarHonda insiders have revealed that the car will be built in India and Thailand and will be sold in the up-and-coming markets. They have also indicated that the car could be sold in the West at a later date. Honda will reveal more details about the car, its production date and target price at the Auto Expo in Delhi. While Honda is elusive about the details of the car, Toyota has code named the new concept as Entry Family Car which will be given a new name once it goes into production and eventually hits the roads. Toyota is targeting emergent markets like Brazil, Russia, India and Latin America.

Honda India is certain to face stiff competition from Maruti Suzuki which holds more than 50 percent market share in the small car segment. Moreover, small cars from other automakers like Nissan Micra, Ford Figo, Chevrolet Beat and Volkswagen Polo are other entrants in the market. Out of these small cars coming to India next year, Nissan Micra is being constructed in a similar fashion as Honda's new small concept car. Nissan Micra is at present being developed on a global platform. This venture will not only reduce costs but it will make the vehicle cheap enough for the emerging markets and can be pepped up to be made sophisticated enough for the developed markets.
