Ford Figo: Ford Launches New Small Car in India

India's role as an important player in the future of Ford Motor Company's international strategy was underscored today when the company's President and CEO, Alan Mulally, unveiled an all new car targeting the heart of the Indian car market - the new Ford Figo.

The Ford Figo, a new nameplate and a fresh face on the Indian market, signals Ford's intention to compete in India's largest and most important small car market segment.

Ford Figo IndiaFord Figo is the result of a significant Ford investment commitment to expand its plant near Chennai for volume production as a small-car centre of excellence regionally. Ford's $500 million investment has doubled the plant's production capacity to 200,000 units per year and introduces major advances in high-quality automation and innovative, eco-friendly production techniques.

"Our exciting new Ford Figo shows how serious we are about India," Mulally said. "It reflects our commitment to compete with great products in all segments of this car market. We are confident the Ford Figo will be a product that Indian consumers really want and value."

Ford Figo is designed and engineered to compete in India's small car segment, which accounts for more than 70 percent of the new vehicle market. It leverages Ford's small-car platform architecture, sharing underlying technology with the Ford Fiesta, already familiar to Indian drivers.

New Shape, Solid Foundation:
Today's press conference in Delhi was the first public preview of the exterior design of the new Ford Figo. Ford is reserving further details about the vehicle until closer to its production launch early in 2010.

Design-conscious Italy inspired the new Ford Figo's name. Figo is colloquial Italian for "cool."

Sharing key elements of Ford's kinetic design language with vehicles like the globally renowned Ford Focus, Ford Mondeo and the Ford Fiesta, Ford Figo features a fresh, contemporary shape that will be a distinctive alternative to traditional brands in this segment. The design language conveys a dynamic spirit of energy in motion.

Quality, substance and generous proportions are clearly evident in the design of the new Ford Figo, which features a solid stance, an invitingly large interior and a vibrant, youthful character. Its package is right-sized for the market, which is predominated by congested urban driving conditions.

From its modern headlamps, grille shapes and sculpted bonnet of its distinctive face to the subtle integrated spoiler and chamfered window shape at the rear, Ford Figo is filled with kinetic design touches. These also include sculpted shapes to the body side - chiseled front fenders, a "comet tail" undercut in the doors and additional light-catching sculpting in the lower bodyside - which combine to communicate the solidity, substance and protective safety of its design.

The bold graphic of Ford Figo's large side window shape is another key kinetic design feature hinting at the comfort and spaciousness awaiting occupants' front and rear. The side window graphic is executed with a blacked-out B-pillar, an elegant design touch that unifies the side windows into one shape visually.

With its wheels positioned at the four corners of the vehicle with minimal overhang, Ford Figo's bold wheel arches self-assuredly signal its agility and solidity.

New Ford Regional Production Centre:
The introduction of the new Ford Figo marks a significant shift for India's role in Ford's strategy. Transformed with a production capacity of 200,000 units, the integrated Chennai manufacturing facility is now positioned as a Ford regional centre of excellence for small-car engineering and production.

Ford Figo models will be produced at the plant for export to international markets. The plant is also being groomed to produce diesel and petrol engines for local vehicle production and export within Ford's Asia Pacific and Africa region.

With more automation and high-tech new facilities, the new site reflects the latest Ford manufacturing processes globally and pioneers new technologies for Ford and India. Created with a "best of the best" approach, it has been benchmarked against other competitive facilities globally, as well as the current volume manufacturers in the Indian market, for quality and production efficiency.

The transformed plant introduces eco-friendly production techniques like its new Three-Wet High-Solids paint process. This approach produces beautifully painted vehicles with three wet coats - primer, base coat and clear coat - of high solids-content paint applied one after the other without oven curing between coats. A first for India, it produces fewer carbon dioxide emissions and reduces volatile organic compounds emissions by about 20 percent compared to current medium-solids solvent-borne paints. Use of high-solids content results in a paint finish with high levels of gloss and depth of colour which is more resistant to scratches and stone chips.

New Tata Indica Vista IGNIS Coming Soon in India

Tata Motors is all set to launch its brand new variant of the most popular car Tata Indica Vista. This is the fourth variant of Tata Indica Vista and will be named IGNIS. The company already has three variants namely Aqua, Terra and the Aura. Ignis will have a 1.4L Saffire engine that powers Fiat Grand Punto. This new engine is bound to be a welcome transition as the present 1.2L Saffire unit is considered insufficient for the size of the car.

The Tata Indica Vista sports chunky 175/65 R14 Goodyear GT3 rubber. The biggest plus of the new variant is the presence of two airbags - one each for the front passenger and the driver. Apart from that, the other attraction is the incorporation of ABS. There is an abundance of black in the interiors that may seem more appealing. The steering wheel is in new design to accommodate the airbag and steering mounted controls for the audio system. What's more, the mirrors are also electrically adjustable.

The all new version of Tata Indica vista will be in showrooms soon and will be priced at Rs. 4.5- 5 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).

Maruti Suzuki to Launch Eco-Friendly Car

Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) is geared up for the launch of an eco-friendly car. It also aims to refurbish all its cars that are under production so they will be compatible with the stringent environment norms put forth by European Union's End-of-Life Vehicle (ELV) recycling norms by 2010.

A senior representative of MSIL said the automobile organization has planned to adopt a new procedure of metal plating in all its future cars. The intra-valent chrome would be replaced with the extra-valent chrome, which would completely change the metal surface treatment processes. In accordance to this, most of its vendors have been asked by the concerned authorities of the MSIL to adopt the new ecological balanced process and use eco-friendly materials in their manufacturing. Besides, it is likely that all its vendors will switch over to these newly adopted technologies by 2010.

Shinzo Nakanishi, MD and CEO of Maruti Suzuki India Limited said "We stand a chance to have the eco-car in the Indian market." He added "It fits well into our product mix and we could utilise the Indo-Thai trade pact to bring in components at low taxes, thus making the car price-competitive for Indian customers."

The ELV directive in the EU covers the disposal of vehicles and their components. Four heavy metals whose use has been severely curtailed on all vehicles sold in the EU since July 1, 2003 have been sorted out. The metals are - lead, mercury, cadmium and hexavalent chromium. An amendment was done to the directive which stated that the maximum concentration values of 0.1 wt per cent for lead and mercury and 0.01 wt per cent for cadmium. This value was later incorporated and established for each homogeneous material in a vehicle. The norms would be applied to any on-road vehicle equipment capable of speeds greater than 25 kph.

However the ELV norms excluded off-road vehicles, railcars, mining and agricultural equipment and vintage cars. Besides, ELV focuses on producing, dismantling and recycling vehicles in a more eco-friendly manner thereby establishing clear quantified targets for reuse, recycling and recovery of vehicles and their components. What's more, the ELV pushes the manufacturers to build new vehicles with a view to their recyclability.

Priced aggressively, the new Endeavour is available in Delhi from today at Rs. 17,99,000 for the 3.0L 4X4 automatic transmission and Rs. 15,99,000 for the 2.5L 4X2 manual transmission variant (Ex-Showroom, New Delhi).

The new grille design features three, finely detailed horizontal bars that seem to float in the grille opening, the middle of which supports a proud ford oval badge. Designers sculpted the three-bar grille - a key element of ford design DNA - to convey the kind of sophistication found in luxury goods packaging. The top edge of the grille features a wide header bar with the Endeavour embossed boldly into its surface.

The new Endeavour's side mirrors also include interesting design details and functionality. Their housings -matte black lowers with chrome uppers - incorporate power folding convenience with turn indicator repeater lamps and a puddle lamp feature, which illuminates the ground around the door of the vehicle as the driver approaches the vehicle and unlocks its doors by remote control.

Poised on bold, 16-inch wheels, the New Ford Endeavour has an unmistakably confident stance that communicates this vehicle is ready to go, whether it's around town, on a great journey or to even greater heights. The new 16-inch alloy wheel -in a unique six-spoke design - is standard equipment, fitted with 245/70r16 tyres.

Inside, the new Endeavour surrounds its occupants with car-like comfort and luxury while providing true seven-seater SUV functionality. The vehicle has outstanding seat comfort and spaciousness. It also features ergonomically crafted seats with a leather seating surfaces. Door panels are also finished in premium material close to the seats for visual appeal and design consistency. - The 2.5-liter (offered with 4x2) Duratorq TDCi common-rail engine, rated at 105 kW (143PS), which delivers peak torque of 330 Nm at just 1800rpm
- The 3.0-liter (offered with 4x4) Duratorq TDCi common-rail peaks at 380 Nm of torque at 2500 rpm, and is rated at 115 kW (156PS) of power output

The 3.0L Endeavour 4x4 automatic transmission models feature an electronic shift-on-the-fly system for the convenient selection of 2WD or 4WD mode. The 4x4 system features a proven-tough Borg-Warner transfer case.

The all-new 4X4 5-speed automatic transmission is an all-terrain vehicle that can handle city, highway or hill driving with ease and agility. The automatic transmission has an overdrive option (5th gear) feature to allow driving in lower gear for greater responsiveness.

The new Ford Endeavour is the only vehicle in its segment to offer side air bags, part of an array of active and passive safety features. These 18-liter bags are designed to protect the head and thorax in the event of a side impact. The Endeavour is also equipped with dual-stage front air bags for driver and passenger. The air bags work in conjunction with three-point safety belts with pre-tensioners and load limiters, another Ford safety distinction.

Active safety features - designed to help the driver avoid an accident - include the Endeavour braking system, which features Anti-lock Braking (ABS) and Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD). The new Ford Endeavour also has Ford's unique Passive Anti-Theft System (PATS), for improved vehicle security. A uniquely coded computer chip is included on the ignition key to ensure the vehicle will not start without the correct key.

A state-of-the-art in-car entertainment and navigation system redefines luxury with a segment first touch screen (7" Inch) satellite navigation system, built-in DVD player which supports all popular file formats, a rear camera and Bluetooth compatible communication system on the Automatic Variant. This unit also has a USB Input.

Suzuki to Introduce GSX-R 1000cc Superbike in India

Suzuki Motorcycle India is planning to enter the new segment of bikes, with entry level motorcycles and is also panning to introduce the new Suzuki GSX-R 1000cc super bike well-known as Gixxer.

Suzuki GSX-R Gixxer IndiaThe Indian counterpart of Japanese giant Suzuki feels that the entry level motorcycles is the highest selling segment, which includes the bikes in the 75cc to 125cc range. The entry level segment is ruled by the motorcycle company Hero Honda with 80% of the market share. Now, Suzuki India will launch an entry-level motorcycle in the next year to compete with the Hero Honda.

As per the recent updates, the Suzuki has recently invested Rs 150 crore on top of its previous investment for the expansion plans and new launches.

Moreover, the Suzuki is also planning to import its 1000cc GSX-R as completely built units (CBU's). Suzuki already has two other modes running in the segment Hayabusa and Intruder. Suzuki has also increased its production capacity to cope up with the increasing demand of the bikes.

Suzuki has seen a good increase in the sales number as well in comparison to last year sales.

New accents at the front and rear contribute to even more elegant styling and visual impact. New single-frame radiator grill in high gloss black with vertical chrome bars adds robustness to the car in conjunction with new Xenon headlights with LED daytime running lights. The new Audi Q7 also comes with optional high-end headlight version that integrates not only a low beam, high beam, and turning and cornering lights, but for the first time also a special superhighway beam. The restyled tailgate presents a more forceful contour. LEDs are standard equipment in the taillights. An aluminum exterior package adds further highlights to the styling. The S line exterior package is designed for sports-minded customers and is available as an optional equipment.

The Audi Q7 is 5,089 mm long and has a 3,002 mm wheelbase. It provides generous interior comfort, a cargo volume of up to 2,035 liters, and unsurpassed variability. The customer can order an interior with six or seven seats. Many improvements down to the smallest details enhance personal comfort – including interior lights in the door linings, an inlay on the passenger side, and new colors as well as materials. Many operator-control details have been refined and enhanced with chrome elements in the new Audi Q7.

All engines in the Audi Q7 program are powerful and efficient direct-injection versions. Standard equipment includes a six-speed tiptronic that shifts swiftly and smoothly as it transfers the generated power to the quattro permanent all-wheel drive system, which distributes it to the axles with modest emphasis on the rear.

Some of the standard equipment of the new Audi Q7 includes 18-inch wheels and adaptive air suspension that enhances the sporty precision of the car's handling as well as its strong off-road performance. The LEDs as a standard fitment in the taillights adds to the appeal of the SUV.

Enhancements in the front include smaller exterior mirrors, contrasting paint finish for the bumper and main body, an enhanced single-frame radiator grille, restyled bumpers, a newly ribbed designed integrated underbody guard in the center section of the bumper, making it more robust. Additions to the rear of the new Audi Q7 have the bumper with a contrasting paint finish and a restyled tailgate.

The new Audi Q7 is powered by highly efficient direct-injection engines and is available in a 3.0 TDI 176 kW (240 hp), 550 Nm torque option, a 3.6 FSI 206 kW (280 hp), 360 Nm torque option and a 4.2 FSI 257 kW (350 hp), 440 Nm torque option.

The hallmark of all Audi cars is the integration of technology with luxury and the new Audi Q7 is no different. The top-of-the line version of the MMI systems includes a hard disk drive, a single DVD player, and voice control, with the option of including a Bluetooth telephone, an advanced radio tuner, Rear Seat Entertainment Preparation, and the Advanced Sound System from Bang & Olufsen.

The new Audi Q7 range starts at (ex-showroom Mumbai) INR 53,40,000 for the 3.0 TDI quattro, INR 55,20,000 for the 3.6 FSI quattro and Euro 42,696 for the 4.2 FSI quattro (non homologated). The new Audi Q7 is available in an exciting palate of new colors like Ibis White, Teak Brown, Orca Black and Graphite Grey as well as the existing colors which include Deep Black, Bahia Beige, Cobalt Blue, Condor Grey, Ice Silver, Garnet Red and Lava Grey.
