Maruti Cars India Launches New Maruti Zen Estilo

Maruti Suzuki India Limited, country's leading car maker, launched the Estilo with all-new overall looks and advanced technological features at a glittering ceremony here today.

The Estilo represents Maruti Suzuki matching pace with the changing taste and lifestyle of 'Vibrant India'. The bolder new Maruti Zen Estilo, designed to meet the aspirations of the Indian customer, is a heady-mix of sculpted features, bold designs, new exciting colours.

New Maruti Zen EstiloLeading the advanced technological features on the new Estilo are a new engine and a transmission system. Equipped with the popular 998cc K-series engine, the Estilo delivers a superior fuel efficiency of 18.2 kmpl (ARAI test results). This BSIV compliant engine makes the Estilo the second car in Maruti Suzuki stable that meets the BSIV norms much ahead of the effective date, April 2010.

The new Zen Estilo comes with new efficient transmission technology and advanced 'Detent pin' gear shift mechanism for smooth and precise gear shift feeling for the customers.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Shinzo Nakanishi, Managing Director and CEO, Maruti Suzuki India Limited said, "The new Estilo, with a new technology engine and a new transmission, is sure to delight the customer. We are confident that the new Estilo with its bolder new design and interiors will add to the competitive edge of Maruti Suzuki in compact car segment."

On the refreshed Estilo, that packages contemporary features and style with next generation technology, he added, "Product upgradation is an integral part of Maruti Suzuki's business strategy and future plans. This is a way to include feedback from the customers and offer better products that match their tastes."

The compact hatchback new Estilo is a part of the growing A2 compact segment where Maruti Suzuki is the established market leader with a market share of 58 per cent.

Superior Technology Engine:
The Maruti Suzuki new Zen Estilo houses the K-series 'K10B' engine under the hood. The 998cc three-cylinder engine delivers a power of 68 PS@ 6200rpm and a higher torque of 90Nm @ 3500rpm. The improved engine technology enables more power, low NVH (Noise, Vibration and Harshness) and the lighter weight of the engine helps to increase the fuel efficiency with lower emissions. The new Estilo comes with ARAI certified fuel efficiency of 18.2 kmpl.

Technical highlights of the K10B engine include DOHC (Double Overhead Cam shaft) with offset crank shaft, resulting in better volumetric efficiency, improved power and FE, high compression ratio, plastic intake manifolds for reducing weight and suction losses, Smart Distributor-less ignition (SDLi) system with dedicated plug top coils and advanced injector for superior atomization. The engine oil in the new technology K10B engine is required to be changed only after 10,000 km thus lowering the running cost.

Environment Friendly:
The new Estilo is the second model from the Maruti Suzuki stable which is BSIV compliant, thanks to the K series engine. The Estilo is also ELV compliant and 89% of the parts are environment friendly meeting ELV norms. Further, to take on the forthcoming norms of 10% Ethanol blending of petrol, the new Estilo is also E-10 compliant. Maruti Suzuki is bringing these environment-friendly features to its range of cars much ahead of the industry adopting these norms.

Superior Transmission:
A new transmission technology and a number of innovations make the new Zen Estilo a combination of power and pleasure.

The new Estilo comes with a new Cable-type transmission technology. The five-speed manual gear with synchromesh is now changed to Cable type as against Rod-type, mechanical transmission earlier. This new transmission reduces the gear shifting effort in the new Estilo, by reducing mechanical losses.

The new Maruti Suzuki Zen Estilo has been fitted with an advanced 'detent pin' gear shift and select mechanism. This mechanism eliminates the sliding friction (or line contact) between parts and provides rolling friction (or point contact). This technology, in turn, facilitates smoother transition of gears, and is a first among all Maruti Suzuki products.

These engineering changes, based on customer feedback, provide gear shift assistance for the driver (the gear smoothly goes into its position with minimal effort of the driver). The mechanism reduces the friction and hysteresis losses, thereby proving smooth and precise shifting of gears. It also removes the feeling of stickiness during gear shift process.

Safety, Security & Comfort:
The new Estilo is high on safety, security and comfort.

Improved occupant safety in the form of increase in the frontal impact absorbing area, as the distance between steering wheel and front bumper is increased.

The VXi variant comes equipped with front and rear fog lamps, rear wiper and washer. Safety features like Airbag (driver side) and ABS are provided as option in the VXi variant.

In terms of vehicle security the VXi variant comes with i-CATS integrated keys, five-door central locking and anti-theft alarm.

Rear parcel shelf adds to the passenger convenience and comfort in the VXi variant. Based on customer feedback, the suspension of the new Estilo has been fine tuned to provide improved ride and handling.

Compact and Convenient:
The new Estilo has got a minimum ground clearance of 165 mm and wheelbase of 2360 mm. The tight turning radius of 4.6 meters makes the Estilo a favored car in tight parking and driving conditions.

Vibrant design, styling and looks:
In its refreshed avatar, the new Estilo flaunts expressive, bold frontline looks owing to new swept-back headlamps, dynamic front and rear bumpers, sculpted fog lamp surrounds and a new hood design with crease lines. The rich chrome detailing in the grille and the stylish wheel covers add to the premium feel and the overall appeal of the vehicle. The side door mouldings and ORVM's have been given a new design to add to the bold looks.

The interiors of the new Maruti Zen Estilo have been done up in a posh-looking two-tone beige/chocolate brown complimentary combination, which adds to the refreshing feel inside the vehicle. The seat-covers, embossed with new organically designed geometric patterns heighten the posh looks of the car's interiors.

The dash-board is in a dual tone chocolate brown and beige combination with new attractive and bright silver accent prominently on the center console, instruments cluster, steering wheel, AC louvers and gear knob. Bajaj Bike: Plans to Launch New Motorcycles in 4 Months

Bajaj Auto is panning to introduce its second new bike for the year in November. The new motorcycle will be in competition with the Hero Honda Splendor and Hero Honda Passion bikes, which rule the roost.

Rajiv Bajaj, MD said it will create a new category or segment in the motorcycle market. According to the analysts it would be in the 100-125cc segment. The new Bajaj Discover 100cc with a DTSi engine is the world's most fuel-efficient motorcycle, with a certified 89 km to a litre of petrol is billed by Bajaj. It was a breakthrough in the segment.

Bajaj Auto's current market share in the 100cc segment stands at 9 per cent, while that of Hero Honda's is pegged at around 80 per cent. Bajaj currently leads the market with the share of 21 per cent in the total motorcycle segment.

Bajaj says, "We hope to hope to regain our former market share of 36 per cent by all that we are doing. The sooner we gain the better."

The 100cc segment contributes to one-third of the total motorcycle market in India. Big companies like Hero Honda, TVS Motor and Yamaha dominates the 100cc motorcycle segment. There are two categories in the segment the entry-level motorcycles brought up by models like Hero Honda Dawn and CD Deluxe the premium end constituting the Hero Honda Passion and Splendor.

The ratio between entry and premium 100cc motorcycles is in the ratio of 30:70, says Pradeep Saxena, senior vice president (automotive practice) of TNS Global. Contradicting the popular perception, rural buyers also opt for the premium 100cc models and not only urban consumers buy the premium 100cc motorcycles.

"It's difficult to pinpoint geographical discriminators for the 100cc segment. It has got to do with income levels. Prosperous rural buyers are buying premium 100cc motorcycles. Over the last two years, we've witnessed equal rate of growths in both categories of the 100cc motorcycle segment."

Bajaj Auto's second segmentation in the 100cc segment lies in disruptive marketing. By introducing the new Discover 100cc, which is derived from the Bajaj Discover 125cc & Bajaj Discover 135cc lineage, consumers would perceive the 100cc as a 125 cc, says Bajaj.

"Those who till now could not afford the 125cc motorcycle can now buy the vehicle at the cost of a 100cc bike."

"The new Discover 100cc offers long-distance commuters enhanced comfort by offering features like gas filled Nitrox rear shock absorbers and anti-friction front forks." Enhancing more features in a 100cc motorcycle can help in third differentiation.

Hero Honda has a total of seven models in 100cc segment some are CD Dawn, CD Deluxe, Splendor, and Passion and remaining three are variants. Bajaj Auto has the Bajaj Platina and the Discover in the 100cc segment but there are no variants currently.

Next Honda too is panning to enter into the 100cc segment. Shinji Aoyoma, president & CEO of Honda Motorcycle and Scooters India Ltd said that, "Our 100cc motorcycle will be positioned as a sporty performance motorcycle".

BMW to Launch Motorrad Bikes in India

BMW, the German luxury car maker is planning a re-entry into the high-end motorcycle market in India after a hiatus of 13 years. The initial attempt; a joint venture with the Hero Group did not take off well.

BMW Motorrad Bikes IndiaSpeaking about the proposed re entry, a senior official said, "The Company is studying India's high-end and premium motorcycle market to introduce its Motorrad range of super bikes in India". Peter Kronschnabl, president, BMW India added "Our people from BMW Motorcycle are having a look at the market. They are also in discussion with us for feedback on the matter. As soon as we see potential for a viable market entry for sustainable growth, we would take that into consideration."

Another BMW official said that the Motorrad bikes range will cost more than Rs. 10 lakh in India. The premium bike market is less than 500 units a year but is definitely good as far as branding and growth prospectus is concerned. The earlier joint venture with Hero; which took off with the launch of F650 failed to click.

Auto analysts say the market for top superbike models such as the Suzuki Hayabusa, Honda 1000RR Fireblade, Honda CBR 1000R, Yamaha MT01 and Yamaha R1 has grown and enhanced the appetite for Rs 10 lakh plus bikes. Besides, Bajaj has plans to launch big bikes from KTM and Kawasaki stables in the near future.

BMW officials have clarified that the plans are not for the short-term and it would take 1-2 years before things get finalized. The German company has used the brand BMW Motorrad since 1923. BMW Motorrad's G series, F series, R series and K series are available all around the world. Designed for off road, sport and touring purposes; the bikes range from 450 cc capacity to 1300 cc capacity.

The market for small bikes has been kept aside and interest for lifestyle bikes is expanding. This is proven by the sale of 93 bikes by Suzuki, 94 units by Yamaha in the Jan-Dec 2008 period. Mr. Atul Gupta, vice-president, marketing and sales Suzuki Motorcycle India said "We are regularly importing containers of our high-end bike Hayabusa and Intruder. Each container has up to 15 bikes and we are ordering new containers of bikes ever 1-2 months". He added that the company intends to sell 100 more high-end bikes costing up to Rs 12.5 lakh by the end of current fiscal.

Bajaj Pulsar 220cc: World's Fastest Indian Bike

Decades after Herbert James 'Burt' Munro, the "world's fastest Indian" set the standards high, for world speed records; two wheeler makers are close on the heels to reset new records in speed. Bajaj launched Bajaj Pulsar 220cc bike. The 2009 Pulsar is capable of 144 kph top speed. New Pulsar was the fastest production bike in India.

Bajaj Pulsar 220cc Fastest Indian Bike
This status was however short lived as Yamaha Motor launched the Daytona racing kit for its Yamaha YZF-R15, which was the fastest production bike here before Bajaj's Pulsar 220cc 2009 edition. It was developed by Yamaha Engineering Corporation and Daytona in Japan. The kit has promised to push up the top whack of the 150cc R15 to 150 kph. "Bajaj's claim lasted for only four days," said a Yamaha official with an ironic grin.

Two wheeler manufactures are trying their best to showcase the best they have in the two wheeler segment. India's third largest two wheeler maker, TVS Motors launched a bigger variant of its premium bike, the TVS Apache RTR.

HS Goindi, president TVS Motor Company said "There was a gap in the market for fast bikes. And the new Apache was meant to fill that gap." Based on the earlier 160cc RTR, the new TVS Apache got a capacity upgrade to 180cc as a result of which its acceleration and top speed went up significantly. "But more than top speed, in this country, acceleration is more meaningful to buyers. They can at least feel it."

The present competition reminds one, of the legend of speed. A salesman during the day, Burt worked on his 1920 Indian Scout that had a top speed of 110 kph. For two decades, he tinkered with it and later travelled to Bonneville in the US with a determination to set world speed records. At one of the records he set, he still remains undefeated.
