Honda Canada announces May sales results

TORONTO - Honda Canada Inc reported an all-time monthly sales record with combined record May sales of 18,892 units by its Honda and Acura divisions, a 4% increase over last May. The Honda Automobile Division reported record May sales of 16,896 units, up 3%, with a record for the most sales ever in a single month. The Acura Division reported April sales of 1,996 units, up 13% over last year.

"The price of fuel is becoming a more significant factor in the purchase decision for Canadian consumers, and Honda is benefiting from that trend, with a good supply of fuel efficient Civic and Fit models. The all-new Pilot and Accord have also been well accepted as best in class fuel efficient vehicles," said Jerry Chenkin, executive vice president, Honda Canada Inc.

Honda May sales highlights include:
- Honda Fit sets record May sales of 1,821 units, up 11% over last year
- Honda Pilot sets record May sales of 491 units, up 4% over last year
- Honda Accord sales of 2,869 units, up 58% over last year

Acura May sales highlights include:
- Acura RDX sets record May sales of 387 units, up 23% over last year
- Acura CSX sales up 34% over last year
- Acura TSX sales up 66% over last year

Honda Canada manufactures the Honda Ridgeline and Civic sedan and coupe, and the Acura CSX nd MDX at its two plants in Alliston, Ontario. A new, third plant in Alliston, with the capacity to produce up to 200,000 vehicle engines annually, is scheduled to open later this year.
